From Troubled Teen to UFC Legend: The Inspiring Journey of Jon Jones

Jon Jones had it under control against Ciryl Gane, getting back from a three-year cutback to present the previous break heavyweight champion in the primary round of their title battle at UFC 285. Gane was no counterpart for Jones when the battle hit the material, which didn't take long, and tapped rapidly when the previous light heavyweight head honcho slapped on a guillotine gag against the wall. It was all over at 2:04 of the principal round, making Jones the heavyweight champ and supporting his status as the GOAT of MMA.

Jon Jones Born on July 19, 1987, in Rochester, New York, Jones grew up in Endicott, New York, and began wrestling at a young age. Jones made his professional MMA debut in April 2008 and quickly established himself as a rising star in the sport. He joined the UFC in August 2008 and won his first four fights in the promotion, including a TKO victory over Brandon Vera in his UFC debut.

In March 2011, Jones fought Mauricio "Shogun" Rua for the UFC light heavyweight championship and won via TKO in the third round. He went on to defend the title eight times, defeating top contenders such as Quinton "Rampage" Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Vitor Belfort, and Alexander Gustafsson.

However, Jones' career has been marred by numerous controversies outside the cage. In May 2012, he was arrested for DUI after crashing his car into a pole in Binghamton, New York. In August 2012, he was involved in a car accident in Albuquerque, New Mexico, that left a pregnant woman with a broken arm. Jones fled the scene but later turned himself in to police and pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident.

In April 2015, Jones was stripped of his UFC light heavyweight title and suspended indefinitely by the UFC after he was arrested on felony hit-and-run charges in Albuquerque. He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 18 months of probation. Jones returned to the octagon in July 2016 and defeated Ovince Saint Preux to win the interim UFC light heavyweight championship. He then defeated Daniel Cormier in a highly anticipated rematch in July 2017 to regain the UFC light heavyweight title.

However, in August 2017, Jones tested positive for a banned substance and was stripped of his title for the second time. He was suspended for 15 months by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). Jones returned to the octagon in December 2018 and defeated Alexander Gustafsson to win the UFC light heavyweight title for the third time. However, he was stripped of the title again in February 2019 after testing positive for a banned substance.

Jones has not fought since February 2021, when he defeated Dominick Reyes by unanimous decision at UFC 247 to retain the UFC light heavyweight title. In August 2021, Jones vacated his title and announced his intention to move up to heavyweight for future fights.

Overall, Jones has a professional MMA record of 26 wins, 1 loss, and 1 no contest. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, but his career has been plagued by numerous controversies outside the octagon.
